Electronic newspapers fined for providing false information about pickpockets in Hanoi

The electronic newspapers include Thanhnien online, Infonet, Tienphong, Online Knowledge and One World.

According to the inspector of the Ministry of Information and Communications, the ministry has given administrative penalties to 5 electronic newspapers due to posting incorrect information which adversely affect a reputation, image and Hanoi tourism under the article "Hanoi ranked in top 10 world’s pickpockets.”

Specifically, Thanhnien online was fined VND 15 million, Infonet, Tienphong and Online Knowledge were fined VND 10 million, while One World was fined VND 6 million.
The inspector said the punishment was mitigated because when discovering errors, the electronic newspapers promptly removed those incorrect information and make corrections.
At the same time the editorial board of the electronic newspapers also reviewed, drew lessons from their mistakes, and actively helped authorities handle administrative violations.
