During the April 30th to May 1st holiday celebrating the 43rd anniversary of the southern liberation, holidaymakers can visit some attractive destinations near Hanoi.
Thung Nai
Located in Cao Phong district, Hoa Binh province, just about 110km north-east of Hanoi center, Thung Nai is a popular destination for weekend retreat of both tourists and upper class Hanoians who can afford the time and cost.
Thung Nai impresses anyone who sees it from the very first time with the harmonious combination of mountains, lakes and charming houses nestled in between the high hills.
Waking up in the morning, tourists can refresh themselves by breathing the fresh air and enjoying the natural beauty in early morning. A boat tour to discover sites around the lake in Thung Nai like Ba Chua Thac Bo temple, Thac Bo grotto (with a lot of stalactite in various shapes), Ngoi Hoa village of Muong people is also a good option.
Especially, tourists who luckily come here on Sunday morning can drop by Thac Bo floating market, just 20 minutes by boat from the Windmill, where they can buy fresh fish, shrimp caught by local people.
Son Tinh Camp
It’s only 35 km far from Hanoi, Son Tinh Camp is located in Dong Mo Tourism Complex and the Vietnamese Culture Village, Ba Vi park. It is an attractive tourist spot for families and young people who loves outdoor activities, specially for a summer camp.
Son Tinh Campsite is surrounded by fresh water of Dong Mo lake and dense forests. Travelers come here to visit the lake, admire the famous international golf course, the majestic mountain landscape, the harmony of water and mountain, the sunset with the herds flying to their nest, join attractive games in the forests and underwater and fire camp service, BBQ… and incentive team-building activities.
Son Tinh Camp is not only attractive for families but also an ideal place for young people to enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, camp fire, mountain climbing, cycling, boat float, sightseeing boat…
Tam Dao district
Tam Dao means Three Islands, a mountain range located about 75km North of Hanoi. The significant shorter distance from Hanoi to Tam Dao compared with Sapa gives the national park many advantages.
Unlike tropical parks in Vietnam such as Cuc Phuong or Cat Tien, Tam Dao represents a different type of fauna and flora that adapts to its cooler and drier air. Tam Dao is more for a relaxing retreat than an intense adventure. Accommodation facility is readily available, as well as restaurants and easy walks. The road that leads from lowland to highland is breath-taking: those that are into physical activities can never afford to miss a biking tour.
Trang An eco-tourism site
Nature has endowed Ninh Binh with magnificent green mountains and blue water. The Trang An eco-tourism site is part of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, an “outdoor geological museum”.
7km west of the center of Ninh Binh province and 96 km south of Hanoi, Trang An covers an area of nearly 2,200 ha surrounded by limestone, hills, and river valleys. The only way to discover the place’s beauty is on a small bamboo boat.
A 3-hour tour begins at the reception center in Trang An avenue. It takes about ten minutes to go from Trang An to the river through the mountains. The weather is cool here.
Floating down the Sao Khe River, visitors eventually arrive at Dark Cave, in front of which queues of bamboo boats are lining up. The boats are kept 3 meters apart for safety and follow different routes into the cave. Trang An’s cave system is complex and diverse.
