Pham Thi Huan will be honoured with the "Model Farmer” award for her outstanding achievements in agricultural production.
The award will be granted at a ceremony held in Bangkok on October 17 to recognise farmers’ achievements with the theme “Climate is changing, food and agriculture must too”.
The WFD 2016 theme highlights how food and agriculture need to adapt to climate change to feed a growing global population in a sustainable way.
Pham Thi Huan has been rewarded for her support of Mekong Delta households to move from crop production to duck raising, egg production and distribution as a result of difficulties in growing rice and other crops due to climate change impacts.
She has created jobs for many female farmers and enhanced women’s standing in respective communities.
Besides, Huan has invested in building an egg processing plant with an investment of over 120 billion VND covering the area of 2 hectares in Hanoi's PhucTho outlying district. The plant can process 65,000 clean eggs per hour.
The construction of the plant began in May this year and it is expected to be operational in early next year.
The plant will help poultry farmers in the capital find an outlet which can purchase a large quantity of eggs from them.
