First bridge linking Hanoi with Noi Bai Airport to resume operation early 2021
Repairs are carefully conducted under the supervision by Japanese experts.
Thang Long Bridge, the only road linking Hanoi’s central part with Noi Bai International Airport, will be put into operation on January 8, 2021 after nearly five months of repair and upgrading.
The reopening to public will ease trafficload for Nhat Tan Bridge in the upcoming Tet holiday (the Lunar New Year), according to the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN).
The repair of the bridge surface costs an investment of VND270 billion (US$11.73 million). A 40-mm polymer asphalt layer will be placed on the top of the light-weight composite deck to ensure the smooth and reduce the traffic noise.
Thang Long Bridge was constructed from 1974 to 1985. The bridge has two levels, with the upper deck reserved for cars and lorries while the lower deck is for motorbikes, bicycles and trains.
Reporters recorded the last placement of the polymer modified asphalt layer on December 28.
