First int’l tourists arrive in Phu Quoc Island

This flight, conducted by Vietjet, the Vietnamese low-cost carrier, to Phu Quoc is the official launch of Vietnam’s “vaccine passport” pilot program.

Vietjet’s flight VJ3749 with more than 200 tourists departing from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport touched down Vietnam’s famous tourism island of Phu Quoc today [on November 20].

These are the first international tourists visiting the country under its Covid-19 vaccine passport initiative after nearly two years of border closure.

The first international tourist group will enjoy a four-day-three-night package tour with accommodation at Vinpearl Resort & Spa Phu Quoc. All passengers are tested for Covid-19 in the first and last day of their stays.

With their negative Covid-19 results, they can go for sightseeing, entertaining, dining, shopping in the pre-approved destinations in Phu Quoc such as Vinpearl Golf, VinWonders theme park, Vinpearl Safari Zoo, and “Tinh hoa Vietnam” cultural shows.

A water salute is performed to welcome the special passengers upon their arrivals at the airport.

Speaking at the welcome event, Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said: “The flight to Phu Quoc today is our official launch of Vietnam’s “vaccine passport” pilot program, marking an advance in the country’s efforts to revive its tourism industry while reopening and developing the economy step by step under a new normalcy context.”

He believed that full compliance with “5K messages” and Covid-19 prevention measures together with high quality tourism products will again affirm Vietnam’s attractiveness and abilities to meet high-class tourism demand in the new normal context and look to bring a ‘Live Fully’ travel experience to all international travelers.

Vietjet Managing Director Dinh Viet Phuong said: “In addition to joining hands with the government to relaunch the tourism industry, we have developed new utilities in compliance with passengers’ new travel terms and regulations.”

For operating in the new normal, Vietjet has put into use “Green flights”, a program that will ensure the highest safety for passengers, flight crew, ground staff and fleet. Vietjet’s own medical declaration application has also been available for passengers’ convenient pre-flight screening, Phuong said.

Passengers aboard the special flight are welcomed at the Phu Quoc International Airport with token gift, travel kits and pearl jewelry, which is specialty of Phu Quoc Island.
