First pharmaceutical databank launched in Vietnam

The pharmaceutical databank was established to offer numerous benefits to users.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) on August 12 launched the pharmaceutical databank on the website drugbank.vn, the first drugs and medicine open data repository in Vietnam, local media reported.

With data of 41,000 licensed manufacturers, distributors and pharmacists, the pharmaceutical databank provides a tool to look up information about the pharmaceutical industry via website or on mobile applications.

DAV’s Director Vu Tuan Cuong said the pharmaceutical databank was established to offer numerous benefits to users.

Accordingly, this open data repository of drugs helps regulators keep a close watch on the history of the drug development and pharmaceutical businesses’ operations.

Besides, it also helps physicians access the most complete open data of all drugs currently in circulation in Vietnam and assist them in treatment.

The launch of the open data repository after three years of preparation is a significant milestone in the management of medicine in particular and the pharmaceutical sector as a whole, Tuan Cuong added.

Deputy Minister of Health Truong Quoc Cuong appreciated the DAV’s efforts in applying information technology to meet the needs of both regulators and pharmaceutical enterprises, physicians and people.

Besides, the website is important in controlling pharmaceuticals quality, distribution and circulation, as well as managing drug prices in an efficient manner, the deputy minister added.

He also stressed the drug databank raises public awareness on the safe and effective use of drugs.
