Foreign tourists to Danang accelerate to 2.3 million in 2017

Danang’s tourism sector has gained significant growth this year, receiving 2.3 million foreign visitors, a 36.8 percent increase against 2016, the city’s Department of Tourism reported.

With the rising in the number of foreign arrivals, the central coastal city greeted a total of 6.6 million tourists this year, up 19 percent over last year and 4.8 percent higher than its yearly target. The figure included 4.3 million domestic tourists, up 11.3 percent year-on-year.
The central city earned over VND19.4 trillion (US$853.96 million) in revenue, an increase of 20.6 percent from 2016.
Statistics also show that the city witnessed an impressive increase in the number of visitors by air which stood at over 1.58 million, up 74.4 percent while by-car visitors via Thailand and Laos was estimated at 14,120.

Experts attributed the impressive achievements of the city’s tourism sector to the sound tourism environment, high-quality services and excellent promotion campaigns.
Danang’s images have been brought closer to both domestic and international tourists through promotion programs, tourism fairs held in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and foreign countries as well as the municipal portal and social networks.
Tourism maps in English or brochures in Korean and Japanese have been available for foreigners while the free mobile app - Danang FantastiCity - was launched to provide travelers with detailed schedule of events taking place in the city, tourist attractions, entertainment, cuisine, accommodations and public toilet maps.
Along with delivering tourism code of conduct to local accommodations and tourist destinations, the municipal Department of Tourism has joined hands with localities to prevent local people from insisting tourists to buy their products or services.
The department has increased promotion campaigns in key markets like Japan, the Republic of Korea, China and Southeast Asia as well as potential ones including France, Germany, the UK and India.
It also inked a cooperation deal with the Danang International Airport to increase flights and flight frequency to and from the city. Currently, 29 direct flights to Danang have been operated.
Short video clips featuring Danang are screened at LED monitors along the city’s streets, while its tourism information is also available at the Danang international airport.
As Danang hosted the APEC Economic Leaders Week in November, the Department of Tourism organized a wide range of programs to promote its tourism potentials. The programs included the Danang Smile campaign; Conference on tourism investment promotion in response to APEC Summit; making video clips promoting Danang tourism at the APEC Summit, a tour for the delegates, the wives and husbands of the heads of state; building a set of publications and gifts to identify Danang tourism as a gift to delegates and organizing the community cultural space.
A special tour was also designed for about 3,000 delegates who are international correspondents reporting on the APEC Summit Week, focusing on the destinations and cultural features of Danang. The tours connect local renowned destinations, including Ngu Hanh Son Mountain, Museum of Cham Sculpture, Son Tra peninsula, Ba Na Hills and Han River.
Regional tours are also offered, connecting Danang with neighboring localities, such as Hoi An ancient city - a UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site - in Quang Nam province and the former imperial capital of Hue in Thua Thien-Hue province.
Danang is a coastal city located in a region with world heritage sites, and synchronous infrastructure - with seaport and international airport. The city is also the final point of the East-West Economic Corridor that leads to the East Sea.
With abundant and diverse natural resources, Danang has many advantages to develop its tourism economy. Thanks to these advantages, tourism sector has become the driving force in the process of socio-economic development in Danang.
