Government instructs to prevent damage from severe cold weather

The Prime Minister has issued an urgent document to direct the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the People’s Committees of northern and central localities preventing damage by severe cold weather.

In the recent days, due to the influence of severe cold air, the northern and northern central localities have been facing freezing cold temperatures. Frost and snow have been seen in mountainous areas with the lowest temperatures recorded in the last 40 years, causing damage to crops and cattle. 
According to the forecast of the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecastings, prolonged severe cold may continue in the coming days and the northern mountainous provinces are likely to happen frost and snow in the mountainous region.
To minimise the damage from cold weather, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and People’s Committees of provinces, cities to seriously implement the Directive on preventing cold and hunger for livestock during the 2015-2016 winter-spring crop.

The Prime Minister also instructed related agencies to keep a close watch on weather updates and announcements, inform people on the weather conditions to actively implement measures of severe cold prevention, ensuring safety for people and agriculture and limiting the damage.
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was asked to monitor, direct and guide localities, businesses and farmers to implement measures preventing cold weather.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment was required to instruct the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecastings closely monitor the weather forecast and timely announce forecasts to localities, relevant agencies and people to actively prevent damage.
Central and local press agencies were asked to update regularly on mass media any informations of the severe cold, and the strong winds at sea to actively avoid damage.
