Grab Vietnam appoints new Vietnamese CEO

Nguyen Thai Hai Van, the first female CEO of Grab in Vietnam, is set to be responsible for setting up a development strategy for Grab operations in the country.

Ride-hailing firm Grab on January 13 announced its appointment of Nguyen Thai Hai Van as its new CEO in Vietnam, replacing Jerry Lim, starting February 1, local media reported.

Van, the first female CEO of Grab in Vietnam, is set to be responsible for setting up development strategy for Grab businesses in the country.

Van joined Grab Vietnam on November 1, 2019, after 17 years of working at Unilever Vietnam. She is currently the co-chair of the Vietnam Mobile Marketing Association.

Meanwhile, Jerry Lim would come back to Singapore and take over the role of regional manager of customer experience.

Last year, Grab said it will invest an additional amount of US$500 million in Vietnam over the next five years in a bid to tap opportunities in fintech, new mobility solutions and logistics in the country. Since its foray in Vietnam in 2014, Grab has invested over $200 million in the country.

In 2019, a number of ride-hailing firms operating in Vietnam saw changes in their leadership, including Le Diep Kieu Trang leaving the CEO position at Go-Viet last October after just five months, and Tran Thanh Hai resigning from the role of CEO of Be Group.
