THE HANOI TIMES Since early September, shops lining Hanoi’s iconic Hang Ma Street have filled their fronts with vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival decorations, turning the narrow, bustling lane into a vivid showcase of light and tradition.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on October 6 this year, marks a cherished time in Vietnamese culture dedicated to family, children and community. The festival is celebrated with glowing lantern processions, lively lion dances, and the sharing of sweet mooncakes symbolizing reunion and prosperity.

In the weeks leading up to the festival, Hang Ma Street becomes a magical wonderland, illuminated by lanterns of all shapes and sizes. Families, young couples, and curious travelers flock to the street to shop for traditional toys and decorations as well as to soak in the joyful, nostalgic atmosphere.
