Hanoi attempts to trim 10% public servants by 2021
Hanoi’s determination of curtailing state employees is among missions to curb state budget deficit which the whole country is striving for.
Hanoi’s authorities have targeted to cut down by 10% of public servants from now through 2021 following the government’s efforts to pursue administrative reforms.
The city's authority will make efforts to achieve the goal which is in line with the Politburo and the party’s resolutions, Director of Hanoi Department of Internal Affairs Tran Huy Sang said on December 10.
Administrative apparatuses and partly state organizations excluding those in the education and health sectors need to streamline employees by 2% annually. Meanwhile, state-funded associations are asked to make plans on personnel reduction annually.
As of June 2017, Hanoi had nearly 133,000 public employees.
Vietnam has planned to cut down 100,000 public servants between 2014 and 2020. The move is estimated to cost VND8,000 billion (US$345 million).
According to the Ministry of Finance, the government would save as much as VND20 trillion or 0.7% in recurrent expenditure in 2018-2020 if the country succeeded in trimming 10% public personnel in the years.
