TripAdvisor, the booking and user review site, recently revealed the list of 25 world`s most attractive destinations in 2016 voted by TripAdvisor users. Accordingly, Vietnam`s capital of Hanoi ranked the 8th place in the list.
In the description of Hanoi, TripAdvisor site wrote thousand-year old city is a harmonious combination between tradition and modernity. According to TripAdvisor, the Vietnamese charming capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside.
“Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest,” it wrote.
“Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.”
To obtain the result, over a 12-month period, the booking and user review site ranked the most searched cities that had more than one million reviews.
"The Travelers' Choice Destination awards recognize the world's most beloved travel spots, based on feedback and booking interest from the TripAdvisor community," said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. "For those planning a summer vacation, now is a great time to plan a trip to one of these popular destinations where hotels are bookable on TripAdvisor for an average of 200 USD per night from June through August."
London topped the list this year.
Beside Hanoi, Cambodia’s Siem Reap and Indonesia’s Ubud are two Southeast Asian cities in the top 10 destinations.
In addition to London, the top 5 destinations of the world are: Istanbul (Turkey), Marrakech (Morocco), Paris (France), Siem Reap (Cambodia). After the terrorist attack in November 2015, Paris still seems to be an attractive international destination, according to the site.
The other cities of the top 10 destinations include: Prague (Czech Republic), Rome (Italy), Hanoi (Vietnam), New York (the US), and Ubud (Indonesia).
