Hanoi People’s Committee has agreed in principle to allow Hanoi Tourism Department promoting tourism as part of cooperation program with Tokyo, Japan.
As such, Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned Hanoi Tourism Department to cooperate with related agencies in developing detailed plan, for which to ensure efficiency, practicality and within the budget limit.
According to Document No. 22/TTr-SDL dated June 08 issued by Hanoi Tourism Department on the cooperation with Tokyo and other members of Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) in 2017 tourism promotion, Tokyo has proposed to promote Hanoi tourism in the city as follow: hanging 1,310 posters promoting Hanoi tourism in subway trains with size of 364mm x515mm; hanging 1,320 posters advertising Hanoi tourism on windows of subway trains in Toei with size of 280mm x515mm; advertising Hanoi tourism on 20 led lightings at Toei subway station with size of 1,030mm x 1,456mm for the duration from October 02 to November 1, 2017 and in four subway lines in Tokyo including: Asakusa, Mita, Shinjuku and Oedo.
At the same time, Hanoi Tourism Department proposes to promote Japan tourism as such: Showing 30 second video clip on Tokyo promotion at led screen in Ba Kieu temple for 90 times per day and in the duration from October 1 to October 30. Advertising Tokyo tourism in Kim Dong cinema from October 1 to October 30; advertising Tokyo tourism in online news paper such as Tourism, Hanoi Moi, Economic & Urban, Dan Tri from October 15 to October 20; hanging 4 large sized posters promoting Tokyo tourism at Exhibition center in 93 Dinh Tien Hoang and 45 Trang Tien during the last two weeks of October.
According to the proposal, Hanoi Tourism Department presented the fact that, due to the promotion of Hanoi in 2014, Japanese tourists coming to Hanoi had increased 16%, reaching 218,000 tourists and ranked 3rd in the top tourism markets of Hanoi. In 2015, Japanese tourism coming to Hanoi had increased 5% with 228,600. In 2016, this number has increase 4% with 238,000. With this being said, Japan is the 3rd important market for Hanoi tourism, behind China and Korea and contributed to 8% of the total foreign tourists staying in Hanoi. In particular, Japanese tourists travelling to Hanoi has reached 30-32% of total Japanese tourists coming to Vietnam.
Hanoi Tourism Department also presented the fact that Japanese tourists are high spenders and reside in 4 to 5 stars’ hotels. Accordingly, they require high quality services and are prepared to pay for such high services. With the average stay from 3 to 4 days in Hanoi, each tourist spends 1,100 USD for staying, eating, exploring, shopping and entertaining in Hanoi. This amount is quite high compared to foreign tourists from other countries coming to Hanoi.
