In 2015, Japanese tourism coming to Hanoi had increased 5% with 228,600. In 2016, this number has increase 4% with 238,000. With this being said, Japan is the 3rd important market for Hanoi tourism, behind China and Korea and contributed to 8% of the total foreign tourists staying in Hanoi. In particular, Japanese tourists travelling to Hanoi has reached 30-32% of total Japanese tourists coming to Vietnam.

Hanoi Tourism Department also presented the fact that Japanese tourists are high spenders and reside in 4 to 5 stars’ hotels. Accordingly, they require high quality services and are prepared to pay for such high services. With the average stay from 3 to 4 days in Hanoi, each tourist spends 1,100 USD for staying, eating, exploring, shopping and entertaining in Hanoi. This amount is quite high compared to foreign tourists from other countries coming to Hanoi.
