Hanoi held a ceremony on May 24 to honour more than 1,000 outstanding students who achieved top results in the international, regional and domestic competitions in the 2015-2016 school year.
Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai attended and presented the certificates of merit to awarded students.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai stressed the city’s policy on facilitating the development of the education and training sector.
The Secretary urged the sector to continue drastic and comprehensive reform with the aims to improve the quality of teaching and management in the future.
The education and training sector needs to focus on building capacity for teaching and managerial staff as well as promoting a learning society, Secretary the municipal Party Chief said.
Among over 1,000 outstanding students, the most typical young student is Tran Xuan Bach, at the grader 5A Doan Thi Diem Primary School, Nam Tu Liem District. He won 4 domestic and international medals, including the Gold Medal at the International Mathematical IMSO in Thailand, the Platinum award at the Asia-Pacific Mathematical Olympiad contest.
Apart from the achievements in culture, municipal students gained many positive accomplishments in sports and arts activities.
Typically, in the 2015-2016 school year, Hanoi's student athletes team placed first at the national Phu Dong sport fesival with 157 medals.
In the 2015-2016 school year, Hanoi’s students at all educational levels grabbed hundreds of prizes at international, regional and national competitions, leading the country in terms of prize numbers with 147 awards.
At the international competitions, Hanoi's students won 44 prizes and medals, including 10 international Olympic medals, Asian Olympic and international youth science contests.
At present, there are 2,622 educational institutions across the city, with over 1.7 million students.
School facilities have been upgraded along with efforts to renew the method of teaching and learning to improve the quality of education and training at all levels.
Director of Education and Training Department Nguyen Huu Do confirmed that the positive changes took place comprehensively at all educational levels and schools in the city.
