Hanoi hosts exhibition showcasing nationwide OCOP products

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Thanh Tri District People's Committee are hosting an OCOP products event celebrating Southern culture from October 4 to 7.

More than 100 booths are displaying over 1,000 One Commune One Product (OCOP) products and safe agricultural foods from 36 provinces and cities nationwide, including 17 from the Southern region, all set in Thanh Tri District.

During the event, visitors can enjoy a cultural performance celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, Thanh Tri District's Liberation, and the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as Thanh Tri District’s achievement of the enhanced new rural standard in 2023.

Nguyen Huy Toan, Vice Chairman of the Thanh Tri District People's Committee, highlighted that the district will present a display area featuring OCOP products from local craft villages.

He added that activities will include making Chung cake (sticky rice cake) and Giay cake (steamed glutinous rice cake) from Duyen Ha Commune, crafting conical hats from Dai Ang Commune, producing mooncakes from Lien Ninh Commune, weaving bamboo and rattan from Van Phuc Commune, and traditional rice wine production from Tam Hiep Commune.

As part of the OCOP program, Thanh Tri has recognized 129 products to date, with 64 rated at four stars and 65 at three stars. Additionally, the district has established four locations for showcasing and selling OCOP products.

In his opening remarks on October 4, Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, highlighted the event as a crucial opportunity for businesses and production households.

He noted that it would help enhance trade connections and promote their brands. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the economic development of rural areas and the new rural development program.

He also emphasized that on September 30, Thanh Tri District was officially recognized by the government for achieving the enhanced new rural standard in 2023, making it the first district in Hanoi to earn this distinction.

Delegates attend the opening ceremony of the event.

Hoa reported that currently, 100% of Hanoi's communes have met new-style rural standards, with 188 communes achieving enhanced standards and 76 classified as model rural areas. At the district level, all districts have also met these rural standards.

Since the implementation of the OCOP program in 2019, the city has evaluated and recognized 2,756 products. Looking ahead, Hanoi plans to assess and classify approximately 500 more products in 2024, according to Deputy Director.

He also highlighted that Hanoi is home to 1,350 craft villages, including 331 traditional craft villages recognized by the city government.

The city boasts 1,090 active agricultural cooperatives, 1,695 farms, and 149 production and consumption link chains, along with over 164 hi-tech application models. More than 13,000 agricultural, forestry, and fishery products have been granted traceability codes.
