The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) is holding a regional workshop on prevention strategies to combat trafficking in persons (TIP), especially for women and children at Sheraton Hanoi Hotel on June 21-22.
The workshop saw the attendance of Nguyen Thi Nha, representative of Vietnam to the AICHR, Assistant Minister Pham Sanh Chau from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and specialists on human trafficking from Australia, Turkey, the Phillipines, Thailand and so on.
The two-day workshop, themed "Enhancing access to information and community-based protection system", includes five sessions:
The first one is regional policy frameworks on prevention strategies to combat trafficking in persons, especially for women and children in Southeast Asia. It has discussed legal and policy instruments that ASEAN has committed to in relatio to prevention of TIP.
The second is access to information as an effective prevention stategy in ensuring safety and protection for women and children, especially those in remote and rural areas. This session has explored how access to information and edequate understanding are key to prvention of TIP.
The third is international and regional experience and best practices in community-based protection system to ensure access to information on TIP. In is session, participants have presented on their respective countries' or regions experiences with regard to models of community-based protection systems that provide support to the victims of TIP.
The fourth and fifth sessions will take place on June 22.
The fourth is strategic development and implementation of information campaigns. This session aims to explore the best practices with regards to the strategic development and implementation of information campaigns.
The last one is engaging stakeholders and communities in the development and implementation of information campaigns towards a people-centered, people oriented ASEAN Community. In this session, the participants will exchange ideas on how to better engage other stakeholders, especially private sector, media companies and communities in the process.
