Hanoi Times - The Hanoi Medical University (HMU) was just granted with a Gold Star Medal, the most honorable award of the Vietnamese State, on the 105th anniversary.Originally, the HMU was founded as the Indochina Medical and Pharmaceutical University in 1902. After August 1945, it was renamed the Vietnam Medical and Pharmaceutical University. Up to now, the HMU has been training more than 22,000 general practitioners and specialists, including over 600 PhDs, 2,000 MAs, 1,849 second-class specialists, 6,374 first-class ones, and nearly 1,000 interns. Many graduates have become leaders of the Ministry of Health, medical colleges, hospitals and clinics throughout the country.

The HMU has been conferred by the State with many honorable titles and awards, such as “Heroic Unit of Labor in the Renovation Time”, “Heroic Unit of the People’s Armed Forces”, Ho Chi Minh Medal, First-grade Independent Medal, First-grade Labor Medal, First-grade Resistance War Medal, and Gold Star Medal.
Since early 2007, the HMU has put its own 200-bed hospital for practice into operation.
