"Hanoi Midnight Sale" and "From online to street vending" are trade promotion events running at Big C Thang Long supermarket since November 24.

Two major time frames, including from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. with the minimum discount offered at 50%, and between 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a discount of up to 100%, are expected to attract a large influx of customers.

The annual event will run until November 27.

As one of the largest supermarket chains, Thailand’s Central Retail will offer many discounts from November 25 to 28, said Nguyen Minh Tuan, Director of Big C GO! hypermarket, Central Retail’s subsidiary.

Since 5:00 p.m. on November 25, consumers shopping at Big C GO! will enjoy discounts of 30-50% on fresh food, 35% on fast-moving consumer goods, and 60% on non-food items.

At Nguyen Kim electronic supermarket chains, home appliances, electronics, and tech products are discounted by up to 70%, applied from November 25 to December 15.

Besides, consumers have chances to receive gifts when joining game shows, and lucky draws at participating points.

Local consumers are shopping at Big C Thang Long, Cau Giay District.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen The Hiep said the special event associated with the Black Friday Sales aims to boost trade, services, and tourism in the city.

"Moreover, it is also the premise for the city to develop the nighttime economy, attract local residents and tourists, and stimulate shopping," he said.

Acting director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan expects the Hanoi Midnight Sale, combined with Black Friday and other events in the Hanoi Promotion Month program will help change consumers' shopping habits, linking shopping with other services such as food, entertainment, and travel.

"The department will review the activity and, based on the results, advise the city to develop similar programs in 2023," she told The Hanoi Times.

According to the municipal Statistics Office, total retail sales of consumer goods and services in Hanoi were estimated at VND567.5 trillion (US$22.9 billion), up 28.8% on year while the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said revenue from the Hanoi Midnight Sale last year increased sharply.

Specifically, AEON Mall Ha Dong and AEON Mall Long Bien saw an increase of 200% in revenue and volume. Big C Thang Long revenue rose 220% compared to normal days. Other retail outlets including BRGMart and Pico electronic stores saw their sales increase by 150% each. Revenue growth from online channels was also from 140% to 220%.
