Hanoi opens Vietnam Urban Green Growth Week 2015

Vietnam Week of Urban Green Growth 2015 was kicked off on November 4 at the Vietnam Women`s Museum, 36 Tran Hung Dao street, Hanoi.

The first Week of Urban Green Growth in Vietnam was co-sponsored by the ministries of Construction and Planning and Investment as part of the activities to celebrate the Vietnam Urban Day (November 8).

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Phan Thi My Linh stressed the importance of both economic and environmental targets in urban green growth in order to ensure sustainable development. 
Deputy Minister Linh affirmed that it is necessary to adjust urban growth models and develop strategies, implementation roadmaps and measures for each city.

As of October, Vietnam has had 788 cities with the urbanisation rate of 35.2%. The average economic growth in urban areas is between 10-15%, almost doubling the figure of the nation. 
They have also contributed 70-75% of the total national GDP, while the contribution from the five centrally-run cities, namely Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, HCM City and Can Tho accounts for over 50% of the country's GDP.
The Ministry of Construction has so far implemented comprehensive measures in many fields towards urban green growth, according to the Construction Deputy Minister. 
After issuing the Green Growth Strategy in 2013, the ministry together with the Association of Cities of Vietnam, the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association launched the programme on developing urban green growth across the country. 
Apart from the expansion of the urban system, its management and enhancing of urban quality has also been concentrated in the past years.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Construction will continue to implement synchronousn solutions towards green growth in Vietnam.
Specifically, the ministry will promptly finalize and promulgate related legal documents, develop strategies for urban development, and guide indicators of urban green growth, management and implementation.
The event includes the key activities such as an exhibition on urban green growth, seminars on "Planning, construction and development of urban green growth" and "Green technology - environmentally friendly materials".
