Hanoi is facing high risk of forest fire in summer due to unusual changes of the weather. Governments of the localities where forests are located shall take measures to actively prevent forest fire and protect the “green lung” of Capital city.
Hanoi currently has 27,756.56 hectares of forest and forestry land. Forest covers an area of 18,600 hectares, mainly in seven districts and towns.
The forest has an important role in protecting the environment, improving the landscape and contributing to developing eco-tourism.
The forest contains mostly pine, acacia, eucalyptus and vegetation, and is highly prone to fire. Therefore, forest fire prevention and fighting requires special attention.
Hanoi is in the process of rapid development, increasing urbanization, whereas green area does not match urbanization.
The forest is therefore has an important role, and serves as the green lung which protects the environment and reduces pollution in urban area. It must be protected and prevented from fire.
In 2017 alone, Hanoi recorded 15 cases of forest fire. The fire in Hoa Son village (Nam Son commune, Soc Son district) in June 2017 destroyed over 50 hectares of forest.
Ba Vi district has 9,867 hectares of forest, accounting for 40% of forest of Hanoi. The district pays special attention to popularization in order to ensure stable development of the forest, prevent fire and over-exploitation of resources.
According to Nguyen Dinh Dan, Vice Chairman of the Ba Vi People’s Committee, in 2017 the district witnessed two fire cases due to the careless of the people.
Another case of fire occurred on an island of Suoi Hai lake, and timely handled by the management board of the lake. For forest resource protection, Ba Vi has taken comprehensive measures for fire prevention and fighting.
Effort is highly increased in the summer, with participation of the district’s Forest Protection Unit as the standing agency.
The forest rangers also promote their roles, closely cooperate with local governments to conduct popularization, patrol and detect cases of destroying forest for cultivation or illegal transport of forestry products, thus minimizing the violation.
According to Vice Chairman of the Soc Son District People’s Committee Do Minh Tuan, in the first quarter of 2018, there were nine forest fires in the area.
The fire was detected soon and handled timely; managing agencies investigated and found out reason.
Soc Son forests mostly consists of pines and acacias; they are located next to other provinces and cities, and have a number of tourist attractions.
The district has build its 2018 forest fire prevention plan since the end of 2017; special attention is paid to supervision and detection of fire, explosion risks in dry and hot season.
In the near future, the district will continue patrol in the area, tighten control over tourist attractions and camping sites, increase popularization among the people.
Generally, localities have paid attention to forest protection, fire fighting and prevention. Many cases of fire were detected and handled quickly.
