Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung chaired a workshop on "Smart traffic and applying modern technology solutions in traffic management of Hanoi city" on August 4.
Attending the seminar were representatives of Singapore's ST Electronics company and Microsoft Vietnam.
At the seminar, delegates shared experiences from Singapore's traffic management. Singaporean experts said that such as many other developing big cities, Hanoi capital is facing traffic jams.
To solve traffic congestions, experts proposed that Hanoi city should build a center model to monitor, manage and control its urban transport.
Accordingly, the model includes a Joint Operating Management Center hosted by the municipal People's Committee, which have 2 attached small centres.
The first center on monitoring, sanctioning and urban transport security is managed by Hanoi Police.
This center performs the following functions: ensuring traffic order and safety; controling, detecting, timely treating traffic safety violations, addressing traffic accidents and fighting against crime.
The center for traffic management and control operated by the municipal Department of Transport, is responsible for monitoring the traffic situation, providing traffic information, organising traffic, adjusting traffic signal lights, and managing public transport means and taxis.
Mr. Do Huy Hoang - Director of Government Division clients of Microsoft Vietnam suggested that in the time ahead Hanoi should apply an intelligent traffic system (ITS) in managing and operating traffic in the city.
To implement the target, Hanoi must converge four conditions, namely: e-government, energy and water; planning, housing and creativity; culture, tourism and creative and traffic, he added.
Speaking at the workshop, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung affirmed the determinations of the local authorities to build a civilized, modern and safe capital.
The Chairman assigned the municipal Department of Transport to cooperate with consultants from ST Electronics company in order to research the ITS application on some main streets and walking space area around Hoan Kiem Lake .
The city's leader also assigned the Hanoi Transport Corporation to research the ITS applications to meet the development needs of the capital.
