Hanoi to promote digital technology application

Hanoi's farmers will have accounts on e-commerce sites with their products having met traceability.

Farmers and cooperatives in the Hanoi Farmers' Union can utilize digital technology in agricultural production and consumption since 2023 with the assistance of the Hanoi Branch of the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group.

The support will be carried out following an agreement signed on April 10 between the Hanoi Farmers' Union and the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group - Hanoi Branch (VNPT Hanoi) for 2023–2028.

Pham Hai Hoa, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Farmers' Union, said the agreement is to motivate the union members to apply science and technology in producing, processing, promoting, and consuming agricultural products.

The cooperation will enable the two sides to conduct digital transformation activities by establishing links with ethical farmers, enterprises, and conventional agricultural cooperatives. Accordingly, they will jointly develop e-government and manage information security incident response.

VNPT Hanoi will assist the city's cooperatives and farmers in using digital technology for agricultural production and product traceability.

Hanoi set the target to train 2,000 enterprises and home business owners, public servants, and students on e-commerce skills, according to the city’s e-commerce development plan, which aims to provide solutions to encourage local businesses and people to use e-commerce and to help manufacturers expand consumption markets for agricultural and consumer goods, handicrafts, as well as products certified as meeting the One Commune One Product (OCOP)’s standards through cross-border e-commerce channels.

Chu Phu My, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the department also supports the testing and certification of the quality of agricultural products for sale on the e-commerce platform and carries out inspection and supervision of food safety. They will soon set parameters for the planting area, the production process, and the sake holders. In addition, they will train farmers in digital skills and help them create accounts and posts on e-commerce sites.
