In response to the program "1 Million Initiatives - Overcoming Difficulties to Fight the Covid-19 Pandemic" launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on January 11, 2022, trade unionists in Hanoi submitted about 130,000 initiatives.

To encourage the submission of solutions, models, and innovative practices, innovation support teams have been set up to provide timely assistance to union members and workers by releasing tutorial clips on how to submit initiatives on the software system.

Pham Quang Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi Trade Union, said that through innovative, systematic and resolute approaches, together with timely encouragement and rewards, the union's program has achieved numerous records in the 20-month implementation period.

He added that 40,000 people in Hanoi joined the program, the highest number of participants in the country, making the Hanoi union the second largest in the number of initiatives nationwide (more than 201,000 initiatives, reaching 230% of the target set by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor).

The Hanoi Trade Union was also one of the five unions from localities and sectors recognized by the Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor at the national program review conference on November 3.

The initiatives of the city's workers and employees cover various fields, including business, education, healthcare, technology, automation, digital technology acceleration, Covid-19 prevention, environmental resource protection, and administrative reform.

"Many initiatives are highly adaptable and timely to meet the work and political mission requirements of each agency and enterprise," Thanh added.

There are also many initiatives with the potential for widespread application within their sector or across the city, bringing practical socio-economic benefits. These initiatives have played an important role in addressing the difficulties faced by enterprises and overcoming the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In particular, the value of the initiatives is estimated at over VND3.5 trillion (US$143 million). Some initiatives by workers have brought benefits to enterprises ranging from VND3 billion (US$122,000) or more to over VND100 billion (US$4.08 million) per year.

During the ceremony to honor outstanding role models, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor recognized and rewarded 30 individuals from the Hanoi Labor Union who had extraordinary and highly beneficial initiatives.

Some of the award-winning unions are from Hoang Mai, Long Bien, Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Ba Vi, Thach That, Phuc Tho, My Duc, Hoai Duc districts, and sectors such as construction, industry and trade, and education.

The "1 Million Initiatives" program has received enthusiastic support and participation from many trade union members, workers, employees and enterprises, as well as local authorities and organizations in the city, according to the organizers.

Many exemplary collectives and individuals have been praised and rewarded by the government and trade unions at various levels.

As of August 31, 2023, over 2 million initiatives from all over the country have been submitted to the program, and some initiatives have generated benefits of over VND100 billion ($4.1 million) per year. In total, the value of benefits generated by these initiatives is over VND33 trillion ($1.35 billion).
