Vietnam expands int'l border gates eligible for e-visa entry

The expansion greatly benefits travelers flying to Vietnam, reinforces the country’s commitment to simplifying entry procedures and welcomes more international visitors.

THE HANOI TIMES — The Government of Vietnam in early December approved an additional 41 checkpoints, including four airports, 11 land border gates and 26 seaports, to provide electronic visas for both entry and exit, totalling the number to 83.

The four international airports include Vinh International Airport in the central province of Nghe An, Chu Lai International Airport in the central city of Danang, the two international airports of Long Thanh (in the southern province of Dong Nai) and Gia Binh (in the northern province of Bac Ninh) will activate e-visa acceptance once operational.

The list of land border checkpoints includes 11 international border gates. In the northern region, these are Dong Dang in Lang Son, Lao Cai in the province of same name, Tra Linh in Cao Bang, Long Sap in Son La, and Thanh Thuy in Tuyen Quang. Other international border gates include Nam Giang in Danang, Le Thanh in Gia Lai, Binh Hiep and Tan Nam in Tay Ninh, and Thuong Phuoc and Dinh Ba in Dong Thap.

In August 2023, Vietnam approved 42 international border gates eligible for e-visa use, including 13 airports, 16 land border gates, and 13 seaports, allowing foreign nationals to enter and exit Vietnam using an e-visa.

An e-visa differs from a traditional visa in both its issuance format and application process. Foreign nationals can submit applications and receive results online without having to visit diplomatic missions or obtain an entry approval letter as previously required.
