The growth shows a rising preference among Hanoi residents and visitors for public transport and urban railway system during major holidays.
THE HANOI TIMES— Public transport services recorded a surge in passengers during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, meeting rising travel demand, according to Tran Hoang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company.
From February 7, bus stations under the company operated 23,020 trips, marking a 1% year-on-year increase. The figure included 1,117 additional services, up 9%, enabling operators to respond swiftly to peak demand and ease congestion at key terminals.
Total ridership during Tet topped 230,500 passengers, with all vehicles operating within regulated capacity and no overloading reported, Hoang said.

"Ticket price adjustments were registered in line with regulations, with no complaints on fares or service quality reported. Bus stations coordinated with local authorities to maintain security and traffic order, significantly reducing violations and upholding fire prevention and sanitation standards," said Hoang.
From February 14 to 22, Hanoi Metro operated a special Tet timetable, running more than 3,333 safe and punctual services. The Cat Linh-Ha Dong and Nhon-Hanoi Station lines carried over 243,000 passengers, up more than 32% year on year, underscoring the metro’s growing role in the capital’s public transport network.
Of the total ridership, the Cat Linh-Ha Dong line served more than 165,000 passengers, while the elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station line carried nearly 78,000.
Hanoi Metro said safe and punctual operations during the busy period reinforced the system’s growing role in the capital’s public transport network.
Normal services resumed on February 23, operating daily from 5:30 AM to 10 PM, with higher frequency during peak hours.
The Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway project, the second of its kind in the capital city, needs to be accelerated while ensuring quality, safety and compliance with technical, aesthetic and environmental standards.
