Hanoi Concert “Kuricorder and Friends”
In celebration of the 45th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Vietnam in 2018, the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam proudly presents music concerts by “Kuricorder and Friends”, on Friday 12 January 2018 in Hanoi and Sunday 14 January in Ho Chi Minh city.
“Kuricorder & Friends” is formed by Kuricorder Quartet, Beautiful Hummingbird and Chiku Toshiaki. Kuricorder Quartet is well known as a recorder ensembles group. They play various recorders, and other music instruments like Melodica, Saxophone, Tuba, Ukulele, Jew’s harp and percussion. They are well-known by the theme music of famous Japanese TV program “PythagoraSwitch” (NHK). Using various instruments, they create comfortable sound.
They started the music exchange program “Kuricorder & Friends” in Southeast Asia in 2015. This is the third time they play in Vietnam after 2013 and 2016. As a special guest, we invite Ms. Ngo Tra My, one of the most famous Dan Bau (Vietnamese monochord zither) player in Vietnam this time.

You are invited to the discussion “Mother Goddess Worship – Temples and Rituals” on the occasion of launching the book “Mother Goddesses – The sacred realm in the real world” with the participation of:

Religious belief plays an indispensable role in the spiritual life of the Vietnamese and is a lively manifestation of the Vietnamese culture. Not only helping to ease the pain, the loss of the unfortunates, religious belief also acts as an encouragement that leads people towards kindness and help them overcomes difficulties in life.
Despite vicissitudes that it encountered through the years – even banned from practice at times – the worship of Mother Goddesses is still present and practiced in some parts of the country.
Today, this belief has become a symbol of the Vietnamese culture. The book “Mother Goddesses – The sacred realm in the real world” – which systematically organize knowledge on the worship of Mother Goddesses – will help readers understand more about the practice, the belief and a culture so unique to Vietnam, which was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in December 2016.

“Toi ngoi day cho con bao toi” tells a seemingly fictitious story about an unemployed young man and a girl with schizoprenia, all the while pose a difficult question: Who are we? How are we supposed to live in a world where everyone is oddly becoming more and more alike, a world dominated by media and the internet, a world in which reality is crisscrossed with constraints everywhere we look: family, boyfriend or girlfriend, salary, our personal story, our childhood, the environment in which we live, our city, bus rides, utility poles, stone benches where we seat, capitalism, Facebook friends of all kinds, our reputation, and the ego lurking deep inside ourselves.
A world where, gradually, the effort which were supposed to bring about serenity accumulates to form a fiery, raging, ruthless, destructive storm that pierces us from the inside, creating a hole through which the winds continuously engulf us, making ourselves wonder: Should we go along or fight against such a storm? A story about young people living in urban contexts, told by the uniquely chill, unpolished and hilarious style of Nguyen Hai Nhat Huy.
