Taking place from 18 to 24 September with numerous events including film screenings, exhibitions, discussions, workshops, talks hows, Viet Pride LGBT-scholarship awarding sessions, and discussions with parents of LGBT people, Hanoi Pride 2017 (previously known as Viet Pride Hanoi) will be an awe-inspiring event which features a cycling activity and lots of parties and performances in the afternoon of Sun 24 Sep 2017.

Dance Performance “The Burrow” (Der Bau)
The intoxicating dance work “The Burrow” (Der Bau), created by Berlin-based choreographer Isabelle Schad and French visual artist Laurent Goldring, comes to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in September 2017.
“The Burrow” is inspired by Franz Kafka’s unfinished novella of the same title, which is about a mole-like creature, digging an elaborate system of tunnels that it has built over the course of its life. Schad and Goldring use the animal’s burrow as a metaphor for the human body and create a unique performance with a mix of lush, ferocious, and sometimes spare movement, performed nude. A large and commanding sheet of fabric suggests Kafka’s labyrinth – described as a space derived from the body, and yet still belonging to it. It is beautifully manipulated to dramatically alter the visual and physical relationship between body and space.
“The Burrow” is part of a series of influential art collaborations by dancer and choreographer Isabelle Schad and visual artist Laurent Goldring. In their work, Schad and Goldring employ a concept of “intensifier” to make physical processes visible. Like an artificial limb, an outer layer encloses the body, serving as transition between the inner and the outer world. In The Burrow, the space which results from the connection between body and material serves this purpose.
The dance piece will be performed as part of the festival “Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance” this year, together with the visual exhibition “Sculpting the Burrow” of still images from the video record of the piece.

Art Exhibition “Le Sourire de la Mutation”
Art exhibition “La sourire de la mutation” (translation: The smile of mutation) brings about a poetic perspective of Vietnam in its metamorphosis. The three artists coming from three different countries – France, Belgium and Vietnam – explore the theme of the changes in urban space through different perspectives: visual, dance and installation art. The scenery of Vietnam’s metropolitan cities is illustrated in Truong Minh Thy Nguyen’s mural. The sun jacket covered ladies on motorbikes become the muses for Emmanuelle Vincent’s dance piece. And objects, they dangle between fantasies and traditions in the installation artwork of Pierre Larauza.

Dance Festival “Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance” 2017
The annual dance festival “Europe meets Asia in Contemporary Dance” will take place for the seventh time this year in Vietnam. The festival, coordinated by the Goethe-Institut, has successfully contributed to raising awareness on contemporary dance in Vietnam since 2011.
“Europe meets Asia in Contemporary Dance”, an initiative of EUNIC – the Network of European cultural institutes and embassies in Hanoi, is organized this year by the Goethe-Institut, L’Espace, Embassy of Spain, Embassy of Switzerland and the Consulate General of Canada in HCMC, in cooperation with the Youth Theater Vietnam and the HCMC Dance School.
Dance, an important artistic medium worldwide, is an artistic language which tells stories, expresses mental and emotional conditions in our life, and gives us new perspectives. Topics and techniques, feelings and thoughts, creative energy and perseverance are expressed.
Artists perform an important task in society and for all of us. They ask about humanity and the essence of being human. They open our eyes and hearts. They strengthen our empathy and compassion. Dancers evoke positive energy which transcends from the stage or other spaces of performance onto the spectators, draws us into their action and occupies our minds beyond the time of the performance. And their performance demands an attitude of respect and reflection from us.

Autumn Queer Film Week
This September, HIQFP proudly present to you Hanoi International Queer Film Week – Autumn (HIQFW Autumn for short)- a non-profit Queer-themed film screening event that screens both Vietnamese and International cinematic works in order to bring Queer films and more diverse stories of the Queer community to the people in Hanoi. This event is a part of Hanoi Pride 2017 in Hanoi this September. From September 19th – 22nd, we will bring 9 wonderful Queer movies from all over the world to the audiences in Hanoi. You will laugh and cry, be happy and feel the sadness just in one week, because 9 movies are 9 different stories that were shared by Queer people themselves.
