“A Film That Makes Us More Human. Photojournalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s profound portrait of humanity.” – The Epoch Times
HUMAN is a collection of stories and images of our world, offering an immersion to the core of what it means to be human. Through these stories full of love and happiness, as well as hatred and violence, HUMAN brings us face to face with the Other, making us reflect on our lives. From stories of everyday experiences to accounts of the most unbelievable lives, these poignant encounters share a rare sincerity and underline who we are – our darker side, but also what is most noble in us, and what is universal. Our Earth is shown at its most sublime through never-before-seen aerial images accompanied by soaring music, resulting in an ode to the beauty of the world, providing a moment to draw breath and for introspection.
HUMAN is a politically engaged work which allows us to embrace the human condition and to reflect on the meaning of our existence.

Fortunately, there’s Johanna, a pretty Swedish student with whom he befriends and has a crush on. Charles’ gang tries to come in between the two. Follow his uncle’s advice, Benoit throws a party and invite all his classmates, which he hopes would be the occasion to become popular and get Johanna back.

Literature on Screen: “The Hours”.
In the second week of the Literature on Screen movie month, TPD would like to present the film The Hours by director Stephen Daldry.
The Hours is a British-U.S. drama film directed by Stephen Daldry, and starring Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman. Supporting roles are played by Ed Harris, John C. Reilly, Stephen Dillane, Jeff Daniels, Miranda Richardson, Allison Janney, Toni Collette, Claire Danes and Eileen Atkins. The screenplay by David Hare is based on Michael Cunningham’s 1999 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same title.
The plot focuses on three women of different generations whose lives are interconnected by the novel “Mrs Dalloway” by Virginia Woolf. These are Clarissa Vaughan (Streep), a New Yorker preparing an award party for her AIDS-stricken long-time friend and poet, Richard (Harris) in 2001; Laura Brown (Moore), a pregnant 1950s California housewife with a young boy and an unhappy marriage; and Virginia Woolf (Kidman) herself in 1920s England, who is struggling with depression and mental illness while trying to write her novel.
The film was released in Los Angeles and New York City on Christmas Day 2002, and was given a limited release in the United States and Canada two days later on December 27, 2002. It did not receive a wide release in North America until January 2003, and was then released in British cinemas on Valentine’s Day that year. Critical reaction to the film was mostly positive, with nine Academy Award nominations for The Hours including Best Picture, and a win for Nicole Kidman as Best Actress.

Book Introduction: “Photography in Southeast Asia: A Survey”.
Heritage Space is pleased to invite you to the introduction of the book “Photography in Southeast Asia: A Survey” (NUS Press, 2016; 2nd print 2017), with a presentation by author Zhuang Wubin. The book tracks the evolution of photographic practices in ten countries across the region.
The narratives begin at the age of colonialism and segue to the contemporary period. The book has taken Zhuang Wubin over ten years to complete, drawing largely from the oral interviews that he has conducted with photographers, artists, curators and academics during his fieldwork. It tracks the evolution of art photography, photojournalism, conceptual art and news photography over the decades. It also looks at the ways in which photography intersects with politics, religion and culture, amongst others.
In this talk, Zhuang will narrate the evolution of photography in Southeast Asia as a way to peer into the complexities of the region. He also hopes to use the talk to have an informal discussion with the audience regarding the place of Vietnamese photography in its fine art tradition and within the region.
