Hanoi's new tourism products introduced in 2016

In 2016, the municipal tourism sector introduced some exciting new products such as: the Hanoi Memories programme, the "Emotion of Hanoi" tour, the pilot of opening more walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake and Vietnam`s Ao dai space.

These products have promoted the city's tourism development and competitiveness, while contributing to help the sector achieving impressive results in 2016.
According to the stastics, last year, Hanoi welcomed 22 million tourists, in which international visitors for first time surpassed 4 million. Notably, during 2017 New Year holidays, nearly 207,000 visitors came to the city, including over 53,000 foreign passengers, up 34% compared to the same period a year ago.

The outstanding new products of Hanoi's tourism launched in 2016 include:
The Hanoi Memories programme
In early 2016, the Hanoi Tourism Department in collaboration with the Thang Long - Hanoi Preservation Center and DC media JSC jointly organised the Hanoi Memories programme to welcome 2016 New Year holiday.
The programme drew about 12,000 passengers, including approximately 5,000 international tourists. On the occasion, the municipal tourism department held a ceremony to welcome the first internanional tourist to Hanoi in 2016, who was  a French visitor.

A new tourism product entitled "Emotion of Hanoi"
This tour was conducted the survey and implemented from February 25 to April 30.
Officially starting on June 16, the "Emotion of Hanoi" tour take visitors to the world's longest ceramic road with a length of about 3.850m, Long Bien bridge over 100 years old, Bat Trang pottery village, Van Phuc silk village, the ancient Thang Long Citadel, the Temple of Literature, the Old Quarter - Hoan Kiem Lake area, the area around the West Lake and  Ba Vi national Park...
The "Emotion of Hanoi" tour exploits the Hanoi's unique tangible and intangible values, including: natural landscape features, religious works and beliefs, revolutionary historical sites, architectures, arts, the old houses, ancient streets and villages, traditional craft villages, and unique folk arts.
Beside the key tourism sections in Hanoi capital, the tour "Emotion of Hanoi" incorporates the famous landmarks of the North.
Experts said that the "Emotion of Hanoi" is considered a "push" for the professionalization of special products in particular and the municipal tourism sector.
 
The pilot of opening more walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake
From September 1 last year, the Hanoi People's Committee officially extended the walking streets around Hoan Kiem Lake.
During the trial period for the walking streets around the Hoan Kiem Lake, the space now lures from 18,000-25,000 visitors per day, according to the municipal tourism departmen.
This is a practical and effective solution to extend the length of stay and increase the average spending of foreign tourists.

Attractive night-space in Hanoi lures more tourists
In an explicit gesture to bring tourists more nightlife, the municipal People's Committee agreed to give restaurants and bars in Hoan Kiem district the go-ahead to open until 2 a.m. from Friday to Sunday starting September 1, 2016.
The aim of the pilot plan is to draw more tourists, particularly foreign tourists, and control late-night business operations in Hanoi capital, because many have ignored the current curfew and stayed open after midnight anyway, according to Hanoi's authorities.
Most of business owners and tourists in Hanoi's Old Quarter believe that the scheme is a good idea.

The Vietnamese "Ao dai" space in Hanoi
The 2016 Hanoi Aodai (“Long Dress”) Festival, themed “The Essence of the Vietnamese Ao dai”, was successfully organised at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long from October 14-16.The event attracted more than 30,000 domestic and international visitors.
The festival was among the practical activities to implement Hanoi’s policies to turn tourism into a key economic sector for the capital during the 2016-2020 period and in the following years.
The event introduced to local people throughout the country and international friends the beauty of the traditional long dress of Thang Long - Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general.
In addition, the municipal Tourism Department launched a Vietnamese "Ao dai" space at 18 Au Co Street in Hanoi’s Tay Ho district on December 11 with the aims to provide visitors with a venue to promote the traditional Vietnamese long dress.

The launching of the Vietnamese "Ao dai" space aims to create a new tourist attraction for visitors to Hanoi as well as a meeting venue for fashion designers from home and abroad.
 
Free tour of craft streets in the Old Quarters for tourists
The Hanoi's Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Hanoi Tourism Joint Stock Company (Vietnamtourism) has provided a free tour of craft streets in the Old Quarters for tourists on the occasion of the inauguratign of a Center for Tourist Information and Support at 28 Hang Dau street from October.

Each tour guided by competent students, running from 28 Hang Dau St through Hang Dao, Hang Bac, Hang Bo, Lan Ong, Hang Thiec, Hang Quat, Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and Ba Kieu Temple lasts 30 minutes and departs at 9.30am, 10.15am, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday (except holidays).
Visitors will be provided with maps, tourist publications and information about Hanoi tourism sites and other services (hotels, restaurants, transport, and entertainment spots).
After 3 months of operating, the tour has received positive feedback from participating tourists.
