Lonely Planet`s annual Best in Asia list, now in its third year, features the travel guidebook publisher`s top 10 recommended destinations to visit in the year ahead.

Ho Chi Minh City has been ranked 3rd on the list Asia’s ten best destinations to visit in the year ahead by global travel guidebook publisher Lonely Planet, which has revealed its 2018 ‘Best in Asia’ list.
“The southern supercity of Ho Chi Minh City somehow keeps getting cooler,” Lonely Planet wrote.
Busan, South Korea tops the list, followed by Uzbekistan, Ho Chi Minh City, Western Ghats (India), Nagasaki (Japan), Chiang Mai (Thailand), Lumbini (Nepal), Arugam Bay (Sri Lanka), Sichuan Province (China) and Komodo National Park (Indonesia).
Earlier, Ho Chi Minh City has been ranked 2nd on the list of the best night experiences in Southeast Asia by Rough Guides.
“When the sun goes down, the bustling energy of Vietnam's southern megalopolis transfers to its many clubs and bars,” Rough Guides says.
Atmospheric rooftop lounges like Chill Sky Bar stay open until late, and besides drinking, there's a small but exciting music scene to check out.
Acoustic Bar in District 3 has pop-rock cover bands, while Carmen in District 1 offers an odd selection of Spanish flamenco played by skilled Vietnamese musicians. For a casual good time, the plastic tables along Bui Vien – also known as 'Beer Street' – in backpacker central Pham Ngu Lao are a must.
Ho Chi Minh City received more than 3.8 million international visitors in the first 6 months of 2018, a 26.5% higher than in the same period last year, and reached 51% of this year's target, according to Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.
In 2017, the city welcomed more than 6 million international tourists, an increase of 22.8% from 2016, reaching 110% of the set plan. Total tourism revenue is approximately at VND116 trillion (US$5.11 billion), up 12.6% over the same period last year and meeting the set plan. China was the biggest source of visitors, followed by South Korea, Japan, the US, Taiwan (China) and Russia.
