Ho Chi Minh City welcomes over 200,000 foreign visitors during Tet holiday

In January alone, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed 793,662, an increase of 21% from a year earlier.

The number of foreign visitors to Ho Chi Minh City during Tet holiday (Lunar New Year) from January 31 to February 11 is estimated at 221,000, a 15% increase from the same period of last year, according to Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.

The foreign tourists to the city mostly came from China, Japan and South Korea.
In January alone, the metropolis welcomed 793,662 domestic and overseas visitors, a year-on-year increase of 21%. Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism sector reeled in over VND13.5 trillion (US$581 million), a year on year  increase of 26.1%.
In addition, many travel agencies in the city such as Vietravel and Saigontourist operated New Year tours to destinations in Vietnam and overseas. During the nine-day Lunar New Year feast, Ho Chi Minh City organized many kinds of activities to celebrate the 89th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and to welcome the 2019 Lunar New Year, attracting the visits of millions.
Accordingly, a spring flower festival at Tao Dan Park running from January 1 to February 10, the Banh Tet Festival was organized at the History-Culture Park and 24 districts between January 30 and 31. In addition, the annual Nguyen Hue flower street also opened to the public from February 2 to 8, and a book festival was held from February 2 to 8 across Mac Thi Buoi – Nguyen Hue – Ngo Duc Ke streets in District 1.
Earlier, Ho Chi Minh City has been named on the list of the top trending destinations – those places where flight searches have jumped the most year-over-year, according to a list released by Kayak, a travel search engine.
Kayak advises travelers that this big, bustling city in Vietnam is an enchanting mix of new and old, high-rise buildings and ancient temples, hot restaurants and traditional markets.
“Roundtrip flights range from just under US$700 to upwards of US$1,000, but hotels are very reasonable, hovering at around US$100 – 120 a night. Many use Ho Chi Minh City as a jumping off point for exploring the rest of Vietnam, whether it’s a bike trip through the countryside or a lazy trip to the beach,” Kayak wrote.
