Ho Tram to invest over US$183 million in building airport in Ba Ria - Vung Tau
Once completed, the airport would be used to transport tourists from domestic airports to the Grand Ho Tram Strip casino resort.
Ho Tram Project Company, the operator of Grand Ho Tram Strip casino resort, had a meeting with local authorities in the southern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau to discuss the construction of a airport dedicated to serve its resort, VietnamFinance reported.
Once completed, the airport would be used to transport tourists from domestic airports to the Grand Ho Tram Strip.
For an investment capital of VND4.25 trillion (US$183.47 million), the airport will meet the standard of 4C, including one take-off runway with a length of 2,400 meters.
Total area of the land used to build the airport is estimated at 224 hectares, of which over 47 hectares is located in Loc An commune and more than 196 hectares in Lang Dai commune, Dat Do district.
The a Ria - Vung Tau Transport Department previously opposed to the proposal of building an airport in the designated area, due to the limited land fund, while there has already a plan to build a new airport at Go Gang in Long Son commune.
Nguyen Van Trinh, chairman of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau People's Committee said the province has approved proposal by Ho Tram Project Company to build an airport specializing for the transport of its customers.
The Grand Ho Tram Strip casino resort covers an area of 164 hectares with total investment capital of US$4.23 billion.
Last January, Government Decree No.03 providing a legal framework for casino businesses took effect.
This was seen as the government's effort to step by step legalize casino businesses and grant permission for locals to play at casinos in a 3-year pilot scheme. Previously, only foreign passport holders were allowed to gamble in the country's 30 casinos and electronic gaming parlors.
Meanwhile, Decree No.03 will allow local Vietnamese citizens who are 21 or older and who have a regular income of at least VND10 million (US$441) per month to access and play at Vietnam-based casinos.
In order to access a casino in Vietnam, Vietnamese players must buy an entrance ticket at the cost of VND1 million (US$44) per 24 consecutive hours, or VND25 million (US$1,100) per month. The entire proceeds from ticket sales shall go to the provincial budget where the casino is located.
