Hoi An listed among top ten cheapest travel destinations in the world

The travel destination offers all ideal conditions that a foreign tourist would dream about: perfect mix of historic sites, delicious food, charming city streets, beautiful beaches - all are at a budget-friendly price.

The renowned ancient town on the central coast of Vietnam has been ranked 8th in the list of the most wallet-friendly destinations for travelers in 2021, according to the Holiday Money Report 2021 conducted by UK Post Office. Also, Hoi An is in fifth place and is the best value long haul destination, after Bali in Indonesia.

For the fourth year running, Post Office's research has found that holidaymakers expect to pay less for meals, drinks, and other tourist staples in many of the world’s most popular resorts and cities.

Based on data from national and regional tourist boards and specialist tour operators, the report's annual Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer compares the costs of eight tourist staple items - a meal for two, a cup of coffee, a bottle of beer, a Coca-Cola, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, sun cream, and insect repellant across 42 resorts and cities worldwide.

Accordingly, the expenditure for these items at a resort in Hoi An for travelers is £58.39 or US$80.69.  A bottle of mineral water costs £2.85 ($3.93); a cup of coffee costs £0.71 ($0.98); a bottle of beer and coke is priced at  £2.14 ($2.95). Meanwhile, a luxurious dinner with starters, main courses, and desserts with a bottle of wine for two costs £32.04 ($44.26).

Hoi An Ancient Town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and street plan reflect the combined influences of both indigenous and foreign to produce this unique heritage site.

The town comprises a well-preserved complex of 1,107 timber frame buildings, with brick or wooden walls, architectural monuments, commercial and domestic vernacular structures, an open market and a ferry quay, as well as religious buildings such as pagodas and family cult houses.

Earlier, together with Hanoi, Hoi An has also won the ‘Popular Destinations of the World’ category by TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2021. The town was described as a “well-preserved example of the important backpackers and it is becoming better known to tourists”.

Sunny Beach in Bulgaria is the lowest cost destination in the world when visitors only spend an average of £27.71 pounds per day ($38.27). Marmaris in Turkey ranked 2nd  with the amount of £37.19 ($51.37).
