Honoring Trang An tourism complex as a world cultural and natural heritage site
A grand ceremony was held at Bai Dinh Pagoda in the northern province of Ninh Binh on January 23 to receive the UNESCO’s certification recognising Trang An tourism complex as a world cultural and natural heritage site.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam; Vice President of the National Assembly Uong Chu Luu; Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang and leaders, former leaders of the Party and State; the diplomatic missions, international organizations attended the ceremony.
Covering an area of over 6,000 hectares, the Trang An complex consists of the Hoa Lu ancient citadel, Trang An-Tam Coc-Bich Dong natural scenic site, and the Hoa Lu primeval forest. The picturesque landscape of Trang An is a harmonic combination of mountains, valleys and lakes with numerous caves inside stunning limestone karst mountain ranges. Moreover, it is surrounded by primary forests with a wide variety of flora and fauna systems.
The complex met UNESCO's three main criteria on cultural, aesthetic and geographical values with scientists finding a lot of evidence of interaction between early human beings and the environment, and of people's adaptation to fierce climate changes.
A unanimous decision taken at the 38th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee in Doha on June 23 last year made the complex the first combined natural and cultural site of Vietnam and Southeast Asia to get the coveted recognition. Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said, with the recognition of UNESCO’s certification recognisingTrang An tourism complex as a world cultural and natural heritage site, the complex has become the common property of mankind.
The Trang An complex makes all Vietnamese proud of their nation's heroic history, he said, noting that Trang An was a resistance base against the Yuan Mongolian invaders and a base for Buddhism.
