Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Director of the province’s Department of Tourism said that the code of behavior is in the making process, getting feedback from the people before launching in this month. “This code of behavior aims to raise higher awareness among people, companies and travelers coming in the province,” Phuc was quoted as saying.
The code of behavior for tourists includes illustrations of dos and don’ts in Vietnamese and English. The guidebook encourages tourists to respect local traditions, behave in a civilized manner, protect historical relics, support the disabled, elderly, pregnant women and children, and to queue up when using public services or joining activities at public places.
Thua Thien-Hue province has issued strict regulations in June last year on what to wear when visiting its monuments in an attempt to ensure solemnity of the key buildings that once belonged to the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 - 1945). The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, a body of local authorities that manage monuments related to the Dynasty around the former Imperial Capital city, regulated that visitors will have to wear decent clothing when they visiting solemn monuments.
In particular, shorts, revealing skirts and singlets are prohibited in solemn areas, including palaces in which kings once banned the entry of women and temples where the kings and their ancestors are worshipped.
The total number of tourists to Hue in 2017 rose 16% to 3.8 million, contributing to the local tourism revenue of over VND320 billion (US$14 million), according to the province’s Department of Tourism. In 2018, the provincial tourism sector expects to welcome between 4 - 4.2 million visitors, of which the number of foreigners accounts for 40-45%, some 10-12% increase from 2017, generating some VND4 - 4.2 trillion (US$176 million - 184.8 million) in revenue.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a code of behavior for international and domestic tourists, tour operators and locals at tourism spots. The code of conduct includes rules that tourists should obey such as standing in line and respecting local customs and culture.
