The Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention on March 2 signed a Joint Program on Disaster Prevention towards 2020.

The program is designed to raise public awareness about disaster prevention and strengthen the capacity of disaster response teams at grassroots level.

The two sides pledged to participate in national target programs on disaster prevention and climate change adaptation and improve the capacity of steering committees at various levels.
They agreed to work closely within the Sendai Action Program on Disaster Risk Reduction, and strengthen international cooperation on disaster response within ASEAN and the International Red Crescent - Red Cross Society.
