This ship visit forms part of the Indian Navy’s ongoing operational deployment of its ships to Southeast Asia and North West Pacific region.
Indian Naval Ship Ins Rana is scheduled to make a port call at Nha Rong Port, Ho Chi Minh City from September 27 to 30, 2018. Besides professional interaction between personnel of both the navies, the program will include official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Vietnamese government.
Guided tours for Indian Naval personnel and sports events between both navies are also planned. The local populace will get opportunity to visit the Indian ship. On its way out, Indian Navy and Vietnam Peoples’ Navy will undertake passage exercise (PASSEX).
Bilateral relations between India and Vietnam have been traditionally strong with cultural, religious and economic ties dating back to 2nd Century AD. India - Vietnam relations have been strengthened in recent years due to a vibrant economic relationship and growing convergence on political, regional and security issues.
In 2016, during the official visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vietnam, the relations between the two countries were upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited India in January, 2018 as a guest of honor at the Republic Day Parade and to take part in the ASEAN - India Commemorative Summit. This was followed by a state visit by Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang to India in March 2018.
There are a number of bilateral visits by senior defence officers from both sides planned later this year. The high profile visits signify the growing momentum of the bilateral relationship.
The Indian Navy has extensive interactions with Vietnam People’s Navy, particularly in the field of training, repairs, maintenance and logistics support aimed at capacity building. This is the second Port Call by Indian Naval Ship to Vietnam in 2018. Prior to this three Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri, Shakti and Kamorta made port call in Tien Sa Port, Da Nang from May 21 to 25, 2018. The current ship visit seeks to enhance maritime cooperation between the two Navies. This will further bolster the strong bonds of friendship between the two countries and contribute to security and stability in the region and the world at large.
