The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Association (VIFA) co-hosted a ceremony in Hanoi on August 20 to mark Indonesia’s 70th Independence Day (August 17).
Addressing the event, VIFA President Nguyen Dang Tien congratulated Indonesian leaders and people on the Day, expressing his joy at the great achievements reaped by the country in recent time.
He highlighted the long-lasting relations between Vietnam and Indonesia and the close friendship between President Ho Chi Minh and his Indonesian counterpart Sukarno in the past, adding that the ties have the firm foundation as the similarities in history and culture between the two countries.
The bilateral relationship has been growing in all fields from politics, culture and socio-economy, as has their coordination at regional, interregional and global forums.
In 2013, Vietnam and Indonesia upgraded their traditional relationship and comprehensive cooperation to a strategic partnership level, thus further deepening their bilateral affiliation in an effective and sustainable manner.
The move has remarkably contributed to building the ASEAN Community by the end of 2015, and ensuring peace, stability, cooperation and development in the Asia-Pacific region and the world as well.
Tien expressed his hope for a stronger development in the relation between Vietnam and Indonesia in the time ahead.
Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Mayerfas thanked the VUFO and the VIFA for their arrangement of the event.
He stressed that Vietnam is the only country in the region that has a strategic partnership with Indonesia.
