Information technology helps Vietnam boost tourism

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stressed the importance of clean environment, not only for the tourism industry but also for the sustainable development of the country.

The effective use of information technology will help Vietnam’s tourism industry overcome difficulties, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said at the interpellation on Thursday of the ongoing seventh session of the 14th National Assembly (NA) in Hanoi.

According to the deputy prime minister, the government has instructed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to build a plan to strengthen the use information technology in all phases and fields of tourism in order to contribute to make it a key economic sector, the government portal reported.
“Through the information technology, travel businesses can promote their tour packages and tourist destinations online, and enhancing the electronic payment or payment via mobile phone,” said Deputy Prime Minister Dam.
In addition, he stressed mentioned the importance of the environment not only for the tourism industry but also for the sustainable development of the country.
“We need to actively deal with flaws in environmental sanitation or people’s manner. It is necessary to continue mobilizing the people in creating a safe and friendly tourism environment,” he noted.
The number of foreign visitors to Vietnam in the first five-month of 2019 is estimated at nearly 7.3 million, up 8.8% against the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO). The country expects to welcome some 18 million foreign visitors this year, compared to 15.5 million in 2018.
