International community supports Vietnam in East Sea stance

For more than two months after China placed illegally its oil rig Hai Duong - 981 in the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vietnam, China has continued maintaining aggressive, provocative actions such as colliding with Vietnamese ships and law enforcement vessels.

In addition, China outraged world opinion when publishing a sovereignty map which blatantly swallows almost the East Sea.

In response to escalations on East Sea, international comments have opposed gainst China and highly appreciates restrained and constructive behaviour of Vietnam. The European Union (EU), group of leading industrialized countries in the world (G7),  the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF), The Confederation of ASEAN journalists and friendship associations with Vietnam issued a joint statement expressing deep concern about the ongoing tensions in the South China Sea respectively.
A series of international workshops on the East Sea tension were held in France, Sri Lanka, Norway, Argentina, Cuba, United States, etc which condemnes the wrongful actions of China and protests against the vagueness and lack of basis about maps "9 dots" or "10 dots" claimed by China. Conferences also called on China to adhere to international law, reflecting its role as a responsible giant country. Leaders of the many countries voiced strong criticism of China's actions causing regional tensions. Recently, on July 10, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a Resolution S.RES.412 which requires China to turn back to the status quo before May 5th. House Foreign Relations Committee of Japan on June 11 also passed a resolution calling on China to restrain provocative actions on the East Sea. In recent talks with U.S. President Barack Obama, Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key emphasized that China must comply with the principles and provisions of the international treaties which  it has joined and need peaceful solutions on disputed matters after China illegally put down oil and gas exploration rig on East Sea. Australian officials also expressed their concern about the actions flaunting the power of China in the East Sea and stated that unruly behavior of China over time is having a negative impact on regional security.
Clearly, these developments show that Vietnam is not alone in the struggle to protect its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
