The fifth International Conference on Vietnamese Studies under the theme “Sustainable Development in the Context of Global Change” will take place in Hanoi on December 15-16, the Vietnam National University (VNU) – Hanoi announced at the press conference on December 8.
The conference will be organised by the Vietnam National University – Hanoi.
Similar events were previously held in Hanoi and HCM City in 1998, 2002, 2008 and 2012. Hosted by the VNU-Hanoi in partnership with ministries and research institutes, the conference aims to create an international academic forum to discuss and propose solutions to contemporary issues that Vietnam is experiencing.
The event also looks to promote the development of the global network of Vietnam studies and connect researchers and experts from different countries, towards establishing an international organisation on Vietnam studies.
It aims to establish an international academic forum for experts to discuss and propose solutions to tackling temporary issues that Vietnam is dealing with in the context of global change.
It also gathers and connects researchers and experts from various fields and different countries in promoting the global network of Vietnamese Studies.
This year's conference will cover six specialised fields: diplomacy, international cooperation and integration, cultural resource, education and human resource, knowledge and technology transfer, economy - livelihood and climate change.
Prof. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the VNU-Hanoi’s Council for Science and Training, said the event will focus on the transfer of knowledge and technology, and climate change, which are posing great challenges to Vietnam, as well as topical issues.
Vice President of VNU – Hanoi Nguyen Huu Duc, Head of the organising board, said that the conference is expected to attract the participation of 150 scientists, experts and policymakers from 30 countries and territories.
The number of research on Vietnamese Studies amounts to 40,000 and works of foreign scholars account for 50 percent of those, he added, affirming that many international researchers are paying attention to Vietnamese Studies.
The organising board has so far received 700 articles by scientists worldwide.
