Involving Private Capital for Hanoi Tourism Development

Hanoi tourism has been upgraded with more modern, aesthetic and smart transportation infrastructure. Together with more recreational offers, Hanoi is materializing the goals of becoming a smart city, an enticing destination both in Vietnam and in the surrounding regions.

Market potential awaiting for being untapped

According to the newest statistics provided by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, nearly 10 million tourists visited Hanoi in the first five months of 2017, a year on year increase of 7,6%. Of them, over two million  are international arrivals, a 14% increase in comparison to that of the same period of 2016. Meanwhile, roughly 8 million domestic tourists arrived in Hanoi, up by  6% . The total revenue from tourism was 29,203 trillion VND, a 12% increase compared to that of the same period in 2016.

Hanoi tourism has grown steadily. However, according to the evaluations of experts, the above results have not matched Hanoi’s potentials. The international tourists taking accomodations in Hanoi are expected to be 210,000 only who stay less than 2 days and spend almost nothing. Recreational offers for tourists are fairly poor and accomodation infrastrucuture fails to meet the demand.

As part of the Capital’s effort to join the national government drive to make tourism a spearhead economic sector, the Hanoi Party Committee issued the Resolution 06-NQ/TU to develop tourism into one of the major economy sector. Under this resolution, Hanoi has launched big tourism projects to add more attractions to the city’s tourism offer.

Major projects

A smart LED system with 16 million shades of colors were  launched at Nhat Tan Bridge on the holiday of April 30 and May 1. This illumination  project was sponsored by Sun Group and Philips Lighting.

The lighting system has transformed  a major transportation infrastructure into to  impressive artistic work, making it an  emphasis on the architecture of the city. More projects like the lighting at Nhat Tan Bridge Are expected in the future to embellish the city landscape.

Besides, the City continues encourage infrastructure project to promote the modern tourism a, such as Kim Quy theme park project invested by Sun Group at Vinh Ngoc village, Dong Anh district.

15 minutes away from Hanoi, the theme park covers an area of 100ha featuring the North Vietnam’s traditional culture with design inspired by the story of the Co Loa Citadel and entertainment models of Universal Studios and Disneyland. The park has an initial investment of 4,6 trillion VND. Kim Quy theme park has been designed by ITEC Group, a leading global company from the US specializing in designing parks. Bill Coan, the president of ITEC –  revealed  the park will be covered by trees and lakes in its majority, making space for visitors to enjoy nature. Together with modern games and applying world cutting-edge technology, the park also comprises an art enclave and a Kim Quy cultural village to host large scale art shows.

Investors such as Sun Group play an important role in contributing to the development of Hanoi through projects to transform the Capital into an attractive destination for both foreign and domestic tourists.
