Four entities and an individual received the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Award 2018 for their contributions to Vietnam’s development on December 13 in Hanoi. This year's award is given to an individual and four units of the Center for Research and Production of Vaccines and Biologicals (POLYVAC).

In addition, Ishikawa Shuzo, representative director of Sakura Global Solution, engineer and project coordinator, was honored for his contributions to the design, construction of workshops and bridges in the technology transfer process.
POLYVAC was meritorious for its measles production in cooperation with JICA. Under the JICA project, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam has completed the production of measles vaccines, measles-rubella vaccines and high-quality vaccines with international standard, providing stable demand for the market.
Cooperation in vaccine production between Vietnam and Japan started in 2002 with the project of non-refundable aid to build a factory producing measles vaccines, followed by two technical cooperation projects: the one to raise the capacity of measles vaccine production (2006-2010) and the other on improving the capacity of vaccine-rubella vaccine production (2013-2018).
The annual JICA President Award was first launched in 1975 to honor individuals and organizations which make significant contributions to socio-economic development and personnel training in developing countries through international cooperation. Awards were presented to 38 individuals and 14 collectives in 2018.
