The Vietnam Youth Federation Central Committee and the National Traffic Safety Committee held a ceremony to launch a communication campaign on encouraging the wear of standard helmets in Hanoi on September 18.
In 2016, a communication campaign, themed “Live young and civilized - Confidently wearing standard helmets”, to encourage the wear of standard helmets was launched in Hanoi on September 18.
The campaign will be implemented from September 18 to October 18 across the country.
The campaign will organise practical activities including presenting standard helmets to Youth Union members and organising training courses on motorbike driving for youngsters, along with promotional activities on social media.
In 2014 and 2015, the campaign was held widely in major cities throughout the country, with the participation of more than 9,000 Youth Union members to raise public awareness on the importance of wearing standard helmets and provide 12,000 standard helmets for people.
At the ceremony, Nguyen Phi Long, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee said casualties in motorbike accidents in Vietnam has been high, in many cases due to poor quality helmets people wear.
He reported that similar campaigns were conducted in major cities nationwide with the participation of over 9,000 youth union members in the last two years to raise public awareness on the importance of wearing standard helmets, as well as enhance citizens’ sense of responsibility when participating in traffic.
From January to August this year, traffic accidents across the country recorded a year-on-year decline in the numbers of cases, deaths and injured, with 13,612 accidents, claiming 5,728 lives and wounding 11,781 others.
On the occasion, the Organizing board presented the city's rapid transport response team 200 standard helmets.
The campaign will be implemented from September 18 to October 18 across the country.
