An hour-long light snowfall hit two districts of Sa Pa and Bat Xat in the northern mountainous Lao Cai Province early this morning.
This is the first time that the province has received snowfall this year.
The Sa Pa Hydro-meteorological Station said that the local roads were blanketed with 5 to 10 centimetre thick snow in Bat Xat Districts Y Ty Commune.
A sudden cold spell which hit the northern provinces yesterday was blamed for the snowfall and heavy rains in the locality, the station said.
The temperature at 7 am today was minus 0.2 degree Celsius in Sa Pa Town.
According to the NationalCentrefor Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell is likely to last at least three days
