Make in Vietnam forum spotlights breakthroughs shaping digital future in the country

Vietnam will host the seventh National Forum on Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises on December 25 in Hanoi, highlighting policy directions, strategic technologies and progress under the “Make in Vietnam” initiative as the country pushes toward a stronger digital economy.

THE HANOI TIMES  The seventh National Forum on Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises, themed “Make in Vietnam: Advancing Digital Production and Building a Prosperous, Strong Digital Nation”, will take place on December 25 in Hanoi.

Speaking at the Ministry of Science and Technology’s regular press briefing on December 1, Truong Huu Chung, Head of Trade and Investment Promotion at the Authority of ICT Industry, said the forum will welcome around 1,500 delegates.

The participants include representatives from the Party, National Assembly, government, ministries, local authorities, business communities, economic organizations, diplomatic missions and foreign investors.

The Ministry of Science and Technology will organize the event and lead a high-level plenary session with senior government and corporate leaders.

The program features two thematic discussions: mastering and developing strategic digital technologies and supporting Vietnamese digital enterprises to expand globally.

The forum will also display technology products developed by Vietnamese companies.

The strategic technology exhibition area will allow visitors to explore robots, UAVs, AI platforms and more than 50 standout digital technology products.

Organizers arranged these products in eight areas to increase public engagement with new technologies.

The event will review the five-year “Make in Vietnam” journey from 2020 to 2025 and outline directions for the 2026–2030 period.

Organizers will award certificates of merit to organizations, businesses and individuals who made notable contributions to the initiative.

The Make in Vietnam Digital Technology Product Awards 2025 will also take place during the exhibition.

According to Chung, the forum aims to present the Party and State’s strategic directions for digital technology development, including semiconductors and AI, through a distinctly Vietnamese approach.

He said the goal is to drive innovation, encourage Vietnamese intellectual creativity and strengthen cooperation among digital enterprises to build a strong ecosystem for the country’s digital transformation.

By the end of 2024, Vietnam had nearly 73,800 digital technology enterprises, a 10% increase year-on-year, and these firms employed about 1.26 million workers.

The Ministry of Science and Technology projects Vietnam’s information and communications technology (ICT) industry to generate US$169.3 billion in revenue by 2025, a rise of 11.4% from 2024.

Vietnam created its digital technology enterprise community in 2019 under the “Make in Vietnam” vision to accelerate digital sector growth through domestic research, innovation and production.

Over the past five years, the strategy encouraged Vietnamese enterprises to increase research and development, master more core technologies and create digital products with distinct Vietnamese characteristics.

Researchers reported at the sixth National Forum on Vietnamese Digital Technology Enterprises earlier this year that the domestic value contribution of Vietnam’s technology industry grew from 20% to 32% after the launch of “Make in Vietnam”.

With its current number of digital enterprises, Vietnam ranks among the developing countries with the highest number of digital technology firms per capita.

Vietnam aims to raise the domestic value contribution of its digital technology industry to more than 50% by 2030 to move beyond outsourcing and reach higher income levels.
