Ministry to concentrate on IT application and e-government

Hanoi Times - The Ministry of Information and Communications held a meeting in Hanoi o­n January 11 to review its activities in 2007 and discuss its agenda for 2008.

Hanoi Times - The Ministry of Information and Communications held a meeting in Hanoi o­n January 11 to review its activities in 2007 and discuss its agenda for 2008.

2007 saw a vigorous growth in telecommunications and the Internet in Vietnam with an additional 19,520,000 telephones installed, raising the total number of telephones to 46,940,000, equal to more than 55 per o­ne hundred citizens.

The year’s turnover from the electronics industry hit nearly US$ 2.5 million, up 17% from 2006. The hardware industry enjoyed an annual 25% growth, earning US$ 620 million. The software industry earned 483 million, of which 180 million came from exports.

The Ministry has determined that 2008 will be a year for adjusting its structure and activities in line with its new role and functions and other new changes. The ministry will focus its efforts and resources o­n the application of information technology and implementation of e-government.
