More than 82 million Vietnamese covered by health insurance

The number of Vietnam’s population covered by health insurance at the end of October increased considerably.

Some 82.33 million people across Vietnam, or 87,62% of the country’s population, have been covered by health insurance at the end of October, the Vietnam Social Security announced.

According to Vietnam Social Security, as of October 2018, the number of compulsory social insurance participants was estimated at more than 14.19 million people. The number of people opting for voluntary social insurance totaled 251,000  while other 12.13 million purchased  the unemployment insurance .

In the first half  of 2018, the number of compulsory social insurance participants was estimated at more than 13.82 million people. The number of people opting for voluntary social insurance totaled 240,000 people while 11.7 million people participated in the unemployment insurance scheme. 

Thus, the number of Vietnam’s population covered by health insurance at the end of October increases considerably.

Deputy General Director of Vietnam Social Insurance Dao Viet Anh said that in the first ten months of 2018, social insurance paid 101,766 monthly pension dossiers and welfare allowance; 676,605 people on lump-sum allowance; 8,025,482 persons suffered from sickness, maternity, health and rehabilitation. 

Anh said the country has about 15.07 million patients covered by health insurance, added that there are 146.552 million turns of medical checkups paid by health insurance in the first ten months.

Besides, the social insurance agencies have coordinated with the Ministry of Labor and War Invalids and Social Affairs to provide benefit to 63,210 who lost their jobs; support vocational training to 3,812 beneficiaries. In all, in the first ten months of 2018 597,577 people have received unemployment compensation, and 31,186 people received for vocational training allowance, Anh noted.
