A memorial service was held at Road 9 National Martyrs Cemetery in central Quang Tri province on May 12 for 37 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts whose remains had just been brought back to Vietnam from Laos.
In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Mai Thuc said the soldiers have laid down their lives for the people of Laos and Vietnam to live in peace and together rebuild the countries.

Since 1993, Quang Tri province and Laos’ Savannakhet province have joined hands to search for and repatriated the remains of thousands of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died during the war in Laos.
The same day, the remains of three unknown soldiers who died in the war against the US were laid to rest at the War Martyr Cemetery in Kon Tum City, the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
The remains were found by Kon Tum city’s Military Headquarters at Ngoc Bay Mountain in the city together with several guns, bullets, and personal belongings including hammocks, bowls, water canteens and three pens with names engraved.
